The BAMWAM Approach
Become a Man Without a Man Inc. brings together a diverse team of veterans, community leaders, and professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to mentor the youth they serve. With a strong focus on community and personal development, the program supports young men ages 13 to 17, offering a safe space for them to learn about life skills, leadership, career readiness, and emotional well-being.
The program offers structured mentorship and informal support systems, creating a network where young men can form strong relationships with trusted adults who genuinely care about their success. Through life-coaching sessions, educational workshops, field trips, and peer-to-peer mentorship, BAMWAM provides the tools necessary for these young men to build self-confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and learn the importance of responsibility and respect.
History of "Become a Man Without a Man Inc." (BAMWAM) Youth Mentoring Program
They (BAMWAM) were founded by Reginald F. Buggs, a 28-year Navy veteran, who is passionate about empowering at-risk youth. Become a Man Without a Man Inc. (BAMWAM) is a youth mentoring program dedicated to guiding young males through life's challenges and helping them reach their highest potential. The organization operates primarily in the Tidewater, Virginia area, where a committed team of veterans and community professionals volunteer their time and expertise to make a difference in the lives of struggling youth.
The Vision Behind BAMWAM:
Reginald F. Buggs, who grew up in a turbulent environment, experienced firsthand the difficulties of navigating adolescence without positive male role models. Dropping out of high school at the age of 16 and facing many personal and social challenges; Reginald found a way to turn his life around by earning his GED and joining the U.S. Navy. His time in the Navy shaped his sense of discipline, leadership, and responsibility, and it provided him with the clarity to see the urgent need for programs that could mentor young men facing similar struggles.
After over two decades of serving his country, Reginald was inspired to take his lessons and give back to his community. He recognized that many young men in the Tidewater area, especially those in underprivileged neighborhoods, lacking the guidance, mentorship, and resources to help them transition into adulthood successfully. Seeing the impact that a strong mentorship program could have on a young man’s development, he founded Become a Man Without a Man Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on breaking the cycle of generational struggles and empowering at-risk youth.

Reginald’s Journey:

From a troubled youth to a Navy veteran and respected community leader, Reginald's journey is the foundation of BAMWAM's mission. His background as a struggling youth found purpose and direction through hard work, perseverance, and mentorship makes him a powerful role model for the young men he seeks to help.
Reginald earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Community Involvement and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in General Management from Regent University, experiences that further fueled his desire to create positive changes. He saw education as a means of personal advancement and a key to unlocking opportunities for others. His education, military experience, and passion for mentorship became the cornerstone of BAMWAM's approach, which addresses the emotional, social, and educational challenges facing At-risk young males.
At the heart of BAMWAM’s mission is the belief that every young man deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of his background or circumstances. By creating a bridge between youth and community resources, BAMWAM equips participants with the skills to overcome obstacles, make positive life choices, and ultimately become the men they were meant to be.
